Art and Vision of Aurangabad Caves
This book makes detailed and exhaustive study of Aurangabd Caves. I explore every minutiae and microscopic particulars and idiosyncrasies of the artist. Since most of the previous work on Western Indian caves has concentrated on descriptive details , iconographic descriptions , stylistic variations I have attempted at a greater understanding of the artist who have been ignored by most scholars. It is definitely not possible to identify the artist but one can at least make an effort to comprehend an artist through his work. This book has been divided in to six subject , Excluding introductory chapter and conclusion. In each chapter I have taken the caves separately and described them according to the chronological numbers given by ASI. The author has symmetrically started from the exteriors of the cave. Starting with ground plan, door jambs, window frames , figures outside , pillars and pilasters of the Verandah , the details on the pillars and pilasters I have proceeded towards the main hall, antechamber and finally the shrine details. Thus each cave has been discussed and described in its totaility
